wearable abstraction
abstraction was invented on canvas. it was the textile people who put it on bodies. most of the styles here carry a name — the weavers, photographers and painters who spent their careers proving that structure could be the image.

the weaving workshop
anni albers, otti berger and benita koch-otte were sent to weaving because the other bauhaus workshops weren't really open to women. they spent their careers proving that structure could be the image, not decoration laid over it.

intarsia, not print
knitted in as its own construction. the edges stay crisp, and the motif can't crack or fade because it isn't sitting on the surface.

bold pattern. built with a stitch.
jacquard: two colors knitted in the same row, the spare yarn carried along the back. the bauhaus, albers and calder are all built this way — nothing printed on top, so nothing to crack or fade.
